Overview

The 2008 model year sees a new version of Equinox Sport extending the range of sport utility vehicles from Chevrolet. Chevy presents both front-wheel drive as well as on-demand all-wheel-drive configuration for all Equinox models, including LS, LT, LTZ and Sport. All these models, except Equinox LT, are available in a single trim. LT comes in two trim levels, 1LT and 2LT.

Power train and performance

The standard 3.4-liter V-6 engine is common to LS, LT and LTZ models, and capable of generating 185 horsepower at 5200 rpm, and 210 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm. The Sport model is powered by 3.6 -liter V-6 engine that generates 264 horsepower at 6500 rpm, and 250 pound-feet of torque at 2300 rpm. The 3.6-liter dual overhead cam engine features variable valve timing. This power engine comes teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission, whereas the 3.4-liter engines of the other models are offered with five-speed automatic transmission. With a large fuel tank, the front-wheel drive models offer a cruising range of up to 480 highway miles.

Build and Style

All the 2008 versions have three new exterior colors, curtain air bags, audio system upgrades and a DVD entertainment system. The car runs on 18-inch forged, polished aluminum wheels. The LS comes with a standard wheel size of 16 inches; the LT and LTZ models have 17-inch aluminum wheels. The rear seat and front passenger seat can be folded flat to expand carrying capacity.
