Overview

Chevrolet Tahoe is the industry's bestselling full-size sport utility vehicle. It was comprehensively redesigned for 2007, giving customers the capability expected of a full-size SUV, with a sharper and more precise driving feel, more power, and improved segment-leading fuel economy, interior refinement and quietness.

Chevy takes another leap forward in the segment for 2008 with the introduction of the Tahoe Hybrid. It features the world's first-production two-mode full hybrid propulsion system, which offers a 25 percent overall improvement in fuel economy.

Engine and Performance

The Tahoe LS is equipped with a 4.8-liter V-8 engine that delivers 295 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. All other trims are powered by a 5.3-liter V-8 that pumps out 320 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque. The Tahoe Hybrid offers the utility and capability customers seek in a full-size SUV. The Hybrid can tow up to 6,000 pounds, and, when properly equipped, up to 8,200 pounds. To maximize efficiency, the 6.0-liter V-8 engine is equipped with GM's active fuel management technology, which switches between four- and eight-cylinder power in certain driving situations. A four-speed automatic is standard on all models across the board.

Body and Styling

Subtle interior touches and functional aerodynamic details help the Tahoe models stand out from the crowd. Once in the driver's seat it becomes instantly clear why these vehicles are special - from the unique gauge clusters with distinctive badging to the special tachometer. Even the stylish thin-profile seats, designed to reduce mass for improved fuel savings, provide a side benefit of increased second-row legroom.

Standard features include StabiliTrak electronic stability control; tire-pressure monitoring system; a tire inflator kit; cruise control; trailering receiver/equipment; two-speed transfer case (4WD); locking differential; 18-inch, lightweight, polished aluminum wheels; and assist steps.

Safety Features

For 2008, Tahoe's list of standard safety features is enhanced with the inclusion of head-curtain side impact air bags as standard equipment on all models. The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe has earned five stars for driver and front passenger in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration frontal crash testing.
